Neon Shutter Sunglasses – They’re Back!

You may have seen neon shutter sunglasses making a comeback recently. Left in history and well and truly forgotten about, these smashing items of eyewear can now be seen worn on the streets by trendy teenage kids who were not even around in the 80’s – which probably explains why they don’t remember just how bad that era really was. Yes, neon sunglasses are back to haunt us with their neon bright colors that will make our eyes bleed – again!

So who can we thank for this sudden and unexpected return to mainstream society? Part of the blame for neon shutter glasses returning must lie at the feet of pop star Kanye West, who wore the glasses in his music video “Stronger”. His glasses were especially made for him by a professional designer glass maker, but if you also want a pair of his neon sunglasses (for whatever reason, I won’t judge) you can find them online if you look hard enough.

Such is their popularity, you can find more and more styles being sold in online stores every day. Half-shutter sunglasses where only the top half has the slatted pattern have started being seen again, as well as iced neon sunglasses which have diamante diamonds embedded in the frame for extra “pizzazz”. The range of obscure, eye burning colors is also on the increase, with exuberant yellows, bold bright reds, and fresh glowing greens available – meaning that you can make any outfit look as ridiculous as you want.
Also around are deluxe glow-in-the-dark variations, which shine just as their title suggests, and even frames which feature LED lights for the real exhibitionists among you. Just pop a set of batteries into the frame and they will provide *several* minutes of fun at least!

All the things from eras that we thought we could forget seem to be making a renewed attempt to infiltrate our daily lives. Oh well, as they often say – if you can’t beat them, join them – I’m off to buy a pair of neon sunglasses.
